How do I know if I should start therapy?

What does a typical individual therapy session look like?
In individual therapy at Veritas Mental Health, you meet one-on-one with your therapist in a safe, supportive, and confidential environment where you can talk openly about what you’re experiencing.
A typical session often begins by checking in on what has been most important or challenging since your last visit. Together, you and your therapist explore patterns in thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, while validating your experiences and identifying areas where change may be helpful. Sessions may include reflection, skill-building, problem-solving, or learning evidence-based tools tailored to your goals.
There is no script or pressure to talk about anything you’re not ready to address. Each individual therapy session is collaborative and personalized, focused on helping you gain insight, develop healthier coping strategies, and make meaningful, sustainable changes in your life and relationships.

In individual therapy at Veritas Mental Health, therapists use a range of evidence-based treatment approaches and tailor them to each client’s unique needs, goals, and experiences.
Common approaches used in individual therapy include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help identify and change unhelpful thought patterns,
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to build skills for emotional regulation and distress tolerance,
Internal Family Systems (IFS) to better understand internal experiences and patterns, and
Therapists may also use Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for trauma-related concerns and motivational interviewing to support change, insight, and personal agency.
Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all model, Veritas therapists thoughtfully integrate these approaches based on what will be most helpful for you—whether you are working through anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, or relationship challenges. The focus is always on practical, ethical, and collaborative care that supports meaningful, lasting change.
